Last October, GMC revealed its new electric Hummer supertruck which shocked the world with 1,000-horsepower and 11,000 lb-ft of torque. It also raised eyebrows with bold styling that borrows elements from the original Hummer H3, and an impressive 350+ miles of range. Now, GMC has torn the covers off the SUV version of its Hummer EV in an equally dramatic fashion. A TV spot that debuted during the March Madness Final Four showcases the electric Hummer SUV. Narrator by Lebron James, who has been the face of the GMC supertruck since its debut, the commercial highlights the SUV's styling and capability.
The Hummer EV truck and SUV share GMC's next-generation Ultium Platform along with most styling elements inside and out. The SUV doesn't quite reach the 1,000 horsepower number of the truck, but the three-motor models still boast an impressive 830 horsepower, 11,500 lb-ft of torque, and a 0-60 sprint of 3.5 seconds. Another key difference is that the Hummer EV SUV is significantly smaller than the truck. Its 126.7-inch wheelbase and tighter turning circle of only 35.4 feet enable it to better navigate off-road obstacles.
Highlighted in the commercial are two unique capabilities offered in the Hummer EV vehicles: CrabWalk and Extract Mode. CrabWalk turns the rear wheels of the SUV at the same angle as the front wheels when driving at low speeds, essentially allowing the vehicle to slide sideways. Extract Mode lifts the suspension height by 6 inches to allow the vehicle to clear obstacles like rocks and water fording.
Inside, the Hummer EV SUV mimics the 5-passenger layout of its pickup truck counterpart. The cabin is architecturally inspired, open, and modern. In place of the truck bed is a large rear cargo area for loading gear. Like the Hummer EV truck, the SUV gets an Infinity Roof with removable Sky Panels, I-Bar, and rear drop glass.
To allow drivers to kick back and enjoy the luxurious cabin, GMC offers its Super Cruise technology in the supertrucks. The available driver-assistance tech offers hands-free driving on more than 200,000 miles of enabled roads along with an automatic lane changing feature.
Trims and Pricing
In addition to offering three trim options for the new Hummer SUV, (HUMMER EV2 SUV, HUMMER EV2X SUV, HUMMER EV3X SUV) GMC has an exclusive Edition 1 and an Edition 1 with Extreme Off-Road Package for buyers willing to pony up the 6-figure price. The Edition 1 rides on standard 22-inch premium wheels and comes with standard assist steps and floor liners. This 3-motor model gets approximately 300 miles of range.
Shoppers who want the most rugged version of the Hummer EV SUV and aren't scared off by the $110,595 MSRP, can opt for the available Extreme Off-Road Package for the Edition 1 which adds a long list of trail-focused features. These include 18-inch wheels, 35-inch-OD MT tires, underbody armor and rock sliders, front eLocker and virtual rear lockers, heavy-duty ball-spline half shafts, and GMC's UltraVision with underbody camera views. The range for the Off-Road Package is estimated at 280 miles.
The most affordable 2-motor HUMMER EV2 model starts at $79,995 and will be available in spring of 2024. The remaining models will arrive in early 2023, with the Exteme Off-Road Package available on the HUMMER EV2X SUV and HUMMER EV3X SUV.
